The hardiest and most fragrant of all the Gardenias. This variety originates from South Africa, and is a very resilient and fast growing variety that tolerates a range of difficult soils. Undulating shiny green leathery leaves help accentuate the large pure white single terminal flowers. Fast growing, but needs some protection from frost. I grow mine under a stand of eucalypts, with a ground cover of fragrant lily of the valley. I once read if a property comes up for sale with one in the garden – never mind the house, buy it for the tree gardenia! Height 2-3 metres x 2 metres wide.
